![]() Hand Held ScannersIt seems to be a common practice amongst my circle of friends to listen in on fire and police activities through the use of hand held scanners. They have become borderline obsessed with listening to emergencies and the response team communication. But it was not such a regular trait in the past. Some of the older scanners were bulky, immobile and just took up too much space. They were difficult to program. Today's designs are much different. They are compact, come with a wide array of options and easily programmable. It is not such a stressful task to find the channels either. For today's hand held scanners, you just turn on the apparatus, and a channel comes in. The current hand held models are self-contained and have no specific crystal selection needed, which is a good thing. For crystals are inaccurate in retrieving present emergency signals, and when you examine the cost of an older model, it does not add up. It isn't worth it. However, the new models are able to attain frequencies without much effort. They have programming details that other models were incapable of providing. And one group that is extremely thankful for this advancement in technology are survival groups. Survival groups are thankful. They use hand held scanners to listen to any major disasters, events, and/or public service announcements. Survival groups need to remain alive and react to what is unfolding about them ensuring they are prepared and ready for whatever may come their way. Hand held scanners allow them to be alert at all times and ready in case of an emergency. Furthermore, by staying informed via hand held scanners, you are able to avoid riots, traffic accidents, robberies at gas stations, and major fires. Owning hand held scanners help you avoid the road blocks caused to deter you from the fire. Instead, you are able to map out a safe route ahead of the others, and use that steering away from the traffic that will happen from road closures. I, myself, am debating on if I should take a closer look at hand held scanners or not. Owning one makes logical sense, but it is a matter of what kind of hand held scanner to attain. I first had to decide between a stationary and hand held scanners. I went with the hand held. The convenience of having it on-location is enormous. If you own a scanner, why would you want to be plastered in the same spot? The freedom of moving around allows you the capability of checking out various situations in different towns. How exciting. And if you are traveling, then you are able to stay up to date with road, traffic and weather conditions at all times. It is a convenience found only with hand held scanners |
